Official appointment confirmed
The Ghana Football Association has officially appointed Carlos Queiroz as head coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars.
The decision was made by the Executive Council in collaboration with key stakeholders, marking a new chapter for the national side ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Experienced international coach
Queiroz brings extensive experience at the highest level, having previously managed teams such as Portugal, Iran and Egypt, as well as holding roles at clubs including Real Madrid and Manchester United.
His international track record includes multiple World Cup campaigns, making him one of the most experienced managers in global football.
Strong World Cup pedigree
The Portuguese coach led South Africa to qualification for the 2002 World Cup, guided Portugal to the knockout stages in 2010 and managed Iran at the 2014 and 2018 editions.
This will add further depth to Ghana’s ambitions as they prepare to compete on the world stage once again.
Immediate focus on preparation
Queiroz is expected to begin work immediately, focusing on building a competitive squad ahead of the tournament.
The 2026 World Cup, hosted across Canada, Mexico and the United States, is set to begin on June 11.
Group stage schedule
Ghana will open their campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, before facing England and Croatia in the remaining Group L fixtures.
